Whether it’s a sales pitch, a staff appraisal, an interrogation, a job interview or just in your personal life: do you listen?
AI can do almost everything by now. And nearly every day, new tools appear that seemingly make life easier for us – and even do our thinking for us. Unfortunately! What's fascinating is that more and more people seem to be afraid of losing their jobs to AI, while at the same time more and more people are using these AI tools and even designing new ones. Actually rather schizophrenic: we're basically rationalizing ourselves out of existence. Farewell, thinking! It was nice knowing you!
It has also been shown, by the way, that AI-based recruiting systems reinforce existing gender inequalities in the labor market, especially when AI-generated applications from men (who apparently use it more often) are perceived as "more efficient" or "more polished." Uh-oh, hello shitstorm. Studies also show that AI tends to exhibit a so-called "gender bias" in salary recommendations, suggesting higher salaries for men than for women. I love words! I love language! I love good conversations!
But I won't let anyone dictate how I'm allowed to speak. I'm just glad there isn't yet an app that reads my spoken words aloud to the person in front of me in real time – with simultaneous AI-generated polishing, of course. Although... that probably already exists. No, I don't want to know.
Speech profiling can do far more than just analyze what's said. Words and statements can be trained. Just ask politicians or any public speaker. In my conversations with my coachees, companies, or the police, it's about people. It's about listening and reflecting. My goal is to put people back at the center and truly hear them.
