{"id":2139,"date":"2026-05-05T10:27:04","date_gmt":"2026-05-05T10:27:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sn-coaching.com\/?p=2139"},"modified":"2026-05-05T10:49:24","modified_gmt":"2026-05-05T10:49:24","slug":"verstehen-dich-die-menschen","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sn-coaching.com\/en\/verstehen-dich-die-menschen\/","title":{"rendered":"Do people understand you?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>No, this isn\u2019t about your native language, your clear pronunciation, the volume of your voice or how fast you speak. Yes, of course, those things are important too. What I\u2019m getting at is whether people can still follow what you\u2019re saying. Do they understand what you\u2019re saying?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I\u2019m currently reading four books at the same time again. All four are absolutely gripping. In the morning, I can hardly decide which one to pick up next. Most of the time, I end up reading a bit of each anyway. I love good books. Especially when they make me think and\/or really speak to me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One of them does both. It gets me thinking and really speaks to me right now. On the subject \u2013 which is about the future and self-efficacy \u2013 I wish more people would give it some thought. But why don\u2019t they?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Well, I should mention that language and communication are my greatest strengths. With 21 years\u2019 experience in the media and nearly 20 years\u2019 experience in coaching, mental training and face reading, I hear and interpret things quite differently now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With one of the four books, it became clear to me quite quickly that an AI had been used for the editing. The sentences were brilliantly crafted \u2013 no question about it. However, some sentences were completely nonsensical and dragged out to the point of being almost incomprehensible: endless nested clauses and technical jargon, naturally always with references to other authors, experts and \u2013 most importantly \u2013 statistics packed with figures, data and facts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Yeah, I get it \u2013 a book has to be filled out to reach the mandatory minimum of 220 pages. I\u2019ve just written a book myself \u2013 though without AI. For anyone who hasn\u2019t heard of it yet: <a href=\"https:\/\/sn-coaching.com\/en\/\">Just me! \u2026not normal! And believe me, I\u2019ve had plenty of comments: though they were mostly along the lines of \u201cyou write honestly, authentically and originally, and it\u2019s a pleasure to read on\u201d.<\/a> Und glaubt mir, ich habe gen\u00fcgend Kommentare bekommen: allerdings waren das eher Aussagen wie \u201edu schreibst ehrlich, authentisch und originell und es macht Spass weiterzulesen\u201c.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Getting back to the question of why people don\u2019t think more about fascinating topics, such as the future in my example: it\u2019s because they don\u2019t understand it. As mentioned, the book is crammed full of technical terms, convoluted sentences, cross-references, and facts and figures from some statistics that nobody can verify anyway. It\u2019s exhausting! You end up spending more time trying to understand the book than actually thinking about its content. <em>Zukunft<\/em>, nachdenken: weil sie\u2019s nicht verstehen. Das Buch ist, wie erw\u00e4hnt, vollgepackt mit Fachbegriffen, Schachtels\u00e4tzen, Querverweisen, Daten und Fakten aus irgendwelchen Statistiken, die eh niemand \u00fcberpr\u00fcfen kann. Das ist anstrengend! Da bist du mehr damit besch\u00e4ftigt das Buch zu verstehen, als \u00fcber den Inhalt nachzudenken.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I\u2019m currently providing coaching on communication to a large company. There, too, I\u2019ve noticed that in many cases, simple and clear communication would be helpful. Of course, many people need to use technical jargon to demonstrate their superiority to others and make themselves seem important. Is it helpful? Not usually.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There\u2019s a wonderful expression: speaking your mind! It refers to an open, direct and forthright way of expressing one\u2019s opinion. You speak freely, naturally and authentically, without spending ages searching for the \u2018right\u2019 or formal words. That\u2019s what we call conversation. No wonder that even meetings are perceived and experienced by everyone as \u2018exhausting\u2019. It\u2019s not sustainable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Long live simplicity in language! Especially if you want to make a difference.<br>One of the key topics in my talks, seminars and coaching sessions is this: whether it\u2019s a sales pitch, a staff appraisal, an interrogation or your overall demeanour.
