Children love to \u201clearn.\u201d Children want to discover new things, hear new things, and try new things. They enjoy learning. It\u2019s a shame when this joy is taken away from them at an early age, partly due to pressure to perform and coercion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All too often in my coaching sessions, I hear people say that \u201cgoing back to school\u201d is way too much of a hassle. I can totally relate to that. I, too, had the joy of school\u2014and thus of learning\u2014taken away from me at an early age. However, I now consider continuing education more of a hobby. I learn things that genuinely interest me, not because they\u2019re on some curriculum. And I don\u2019t feel any pressure to perform. I don\u2019t have to show anyone my \u201cgrades.\u201d I do it for myself and because I enjoy it. And if it helps me advance in my career, so much the better.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Learning is an investment in yourself<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>You\u2019re never too old to learn something new. Never! Learning is like a workout for your brain. Do it for yourself, not because you have to. And yes, I still feel alive because I rediscovered the joy of education and professional development a long time ago. I can\u2019t even imagine a life without learning. That would be far too boring for me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Even when you get advice from successful people, you always hear\u2014without exception\u2014how important ongoing professional development is.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Take some classes.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Read lots of books.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Learn from your colleagues.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Join webinars.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Try out as many things as you can.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Stay curious and interested.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ask lots of questions!*<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Lifelong learning<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Lifelong learning boosts your self-confidence and sense of self-efficacy. Don\u2019t take away your children\u2019s joy in asking questions. Asking questions shows interest and a high level of intelligence.
